Roots of an Equation

Roots of an Equation , Roots of Quadratic Equation

A value of the variable for which an equation is satisfied is called as the root of the equation. Consider the following examples Let see this quadratic equation

\2x^2+4x+2= 0\

The value of x , for which this equation is satisfied is called as root of the quadratic equation

Let see which value of x is valid root

Putting x = -1 we have

\2x^2+4x+2= 0\

\2(-1)^2+4(-1)+2=0\

\2+4(-1)+2=0\

\4-4=0\

We see that x=-1 is valid value of x for which the equation is satisfied , hence x=-1 is the root of the equation
