Alice and betty bothwant to buy the same kind of ruler. But Alice is 22cents short and betty is 3cents shrort. When they combine their money, they still don't have enough money. What is the most the ruler could cost?
Let the cost of ruler be
Let the cost of ruler be x
Since Alice is 22 short so Alice has x-22 cents
Betty is 3 cents short so betty has x-3 cents
Now when they combine total money they have
x-22+x-3 = 2x -25 cents
As it says they still are not able to buy the ruler
so 2x-25 < x
What is the most the ruler could cost
2x-x=25
x=25
